Notice to Airmen

The most recent notams will always be at the top

10-17-02            A fair number of entrants have not completed the course and in some cases it appears that they may not be able to do so before the end of October.    As a result pireps will continue to be accepted until the end of the year.    New pilots entering this event may also have their results recorded on the roster.

10-02-02            Most everyone is finished and I found out that the start – weather file for Sector 4 was wrong.  From looking at the roster, I think everyone did what I did and set the location, date and time manually.    The download file has been updated and Sector 4 now has the proper start position, time and weather.

And….they’re…..off.     I see by my world clock that it is already September 1st downunder so I imagine some of the pilots are enroute to Nassau.   The latest count on the roster shows 19 participants, not as many as I had expected, but I’m sure we will all have fun.   We will update the roster throughout September and October so there will be plenty of time for newcomers to join us.

If you read the rules quite some time ago, you may be unaware that flight reports should be entered as hours rounded to two decimal points.  The flight report page has been updated today to show this.

The Natal Marine terminal has been renamed SBNS to avoid a conflict with a pre-existing airport in Southern Brazil.

The scenery file was updated at  0930 hours EDT on 08-18-02     The original scenery shows that facility as SBNM if you are using FSNAV    Click here for the Natal Fix (Read the read1st.txt file for instructions on deleting the old sbnm files so that you don’t see double.   If you got your scenery download at a later date you do not need the update.

Rob Finn issued this report:

Bill, Yesterday i was carrying out some experimental flights using Nassau Intl and departing from runway 32.

After leaving the gate and nearing the holding point on the last taxi-way for runway 32, the Catalina hit severe bumpiness on the taxi way, severe enough to flatten the tyre on the left hand main landing gear.

I would recommend that pilots departing Nassau Intl runway 32 carry out an intersection departure from the second last taxi-way.

I believe this bumpiness is an FS2002 problem in as much as at certain areas of certain airports the program cannot recognise the type of surface that the aircraft is taxiing over.

The weather page has been changed.  More intermediate stops in South America have been added, bringing  the total of  flights to 28.

The Catalina Jaunt is for FS2002.  If you want to fly it for your own enjoyment using FS2000 there is a scenery download on the Downloads page.  Sorry, we do not have an aircraft for FS2000 that would meet the specs.

08-10-02

There is a download for starting position and weather.   This is for FS2002 and puts a Catalina Jaunt folder in your flights folder.   To begin a flight click on Select A Flight, then under Choose a category select Catalina Jaunt. In the Choose a flight window, click on the flight you want to fly.  Example is CAT-Sector 1 for the first flight from Miami.

Click “Fly Now” and FS2002 will start up with the PBY-Catalina parked at the PanAm Dinner Key Marine Terminal.  The weather will be preset for that Sector also.
