Flight: 999-13   RKSS (Seoul - RJCS (Sapporo)

Plane: DC3S

Time: 4.5 hrs

Pilot: BGA030

Fuel: 378 gals

Remarks:

Seoul - Sapporo

Off at 0730, climbing to 7500'  on a heading of 068 deg, which should keep us below the 38th Par.

Sokeho Airport which is right on the coast has one rwy of 5118',  VOR 111.0 , NDB 378.

We sure have changed latitudes in a hurry, there is snow on the Mts to the north.  It won't take us long to cross Korea, then we will be over the Sea of Japan.  Just 40 miles to the coast.

Wonsu VOR 110.2.

I remember those mts well and the snow. Just the other side of that snow lies the Sea of Japan.

With 668 mile to go we are at the closest point to N Korea, just 10 miles.

Goodbye Korea, next stop Sapporo on Hokkaido Island, Japan. Forgot to mention, we did inspect our over seas equipment prior to runup.  This is part of our SOP's check lists.

Sapporo VOR 113.9  NDB 357

2 hrs into our flight everything is smooth, 445 miles to go, those PW's are hummin' sweetly.

PNR

Haven't mentioned this before.  The computer that I have FS installed in is not networked yet so I cannot use Real Weather.  I am setting cloud levels and wind on my own.  I would rather leave this to your own discretion, myself I wish I had the RW.  On this flight I have set a cloud level at 5000' and a 10 kt wind from 18 deg.

Okushiri Airport with a runway of 2625'  a  VOR 115.2.  This is a small off shore island near.  We presently are out of range of any Navaids at this altitude.

Okushiri VOR active at 270 miles.

3/4 the way!

During the Korean conflict we flew this area in C54's and DC4's from Vancouver or Seattle (CP charters from Vancouver and Air Force from SeaTac)  to Shemya, in the Aleutians (the only place in the world that I have seen it rain horizontally) to Tachikawa in Japan (near Tokyo).

Sapporo VOR alive.

I see land ahead, it is Okushiri Island.  Hokkaido Island is showing itself just beyond Kosher.

We will be landing on 1L.  A little Trivia, if you flew a heading of 180 deg from here where would you be heading?   Did you say Adelaide in Australia.

Does that indicate the islands arte covered in snow?  Tomorrow we continue further north to the Aleutians.  What do we have in store?  Has any body checked on my route?  Did you note that I scheduled us to fly to Ate?  They don't have an airport, we are going to Schema instead.

Over Kosher.

We are now crossing the coast of Hokkaido Island.  Chitose is across that bay.  Look at the snow.  Break out the Parkas again!

Don't worry about that hill in front it is only 2290'

Sapporo to the left front is where our navy guys hang out ) a navy base).  My youngest son has been there at least 5  or 6 times on the carriers he was on in the Pacific fleet.

Chitose straight ahead.

Descend to 2100'

 Turning down wind leg.

Turning base leg

Have the ILS

Turning final

Runway is sight.

Hello Chitose!
