Date: 03/14/01
Flight: 999-2
Plane: DC3
Time: 2.4 hrs
Pilot: BGA030
I flew the flight from Tampa to Halifax at 9500'.
I put in several cloud layers and a 10 knot wind from as I recall 15 degrees.
The flight from Halifax to Gander was at 5500' and I again
added several cloud layers and a slightly stronger wind, 15 knots from 10
degrees. :
After a thorough flt check, we had topped all tanks and took off at 0800 hours
(1200 GMT) climbing to 5500' at a course setting of 78 degrees.
Please play close attention to the heading as the MAGVAR is very strong up here.
Off the right wing is Ft Hawksbury (VOR 111.25-ADF229, Next will be Sydney (VOR 114.9 -ADF 219).
Not much to look at except all the snow.
Now there is a large body of water, my chart shows that just before we touch land again we should pick up a VOR and ADF for Hope Brook Maine (VOR 109.7 ADF 403) but as we approach the land the Navaids do not come up, guess FS2K doesn't have them.
(If anyone wishes to put them in , I don't know how the coordinates are N 47 42.5 W 58 03.2).
Remember the MAGVAR!
We are looking for Gander (VOR 112.7 ADF 496) we will be landing on RWY 4ILS 109.5 heading 036 Elevation 496.
There is Gander up ahead. 55 nm away, so lets go over our check lists.
Time for our let down to 2500' and turn to 130 deg. to intercept our ILS.
Ok prepare to land, seats in an upright position set belts fastened, oh wait there are nopassengers, just a pilot, copilot and a combination flt engineer/mechanic.
OK here we are get out the parkas.
They will tow our plane into a hanger to install the ferry tanks I ordered for the long O/W flight tomorrow to Reykjavik.
We have spare parts, tools and a complete O/W kit on board as required by the FAA so I will have to clear these with Customs.
See you all at 0600
hours we depart at 0700.
