This was a flight from Memphis to Nashville.Using real weather also made
this flight more enjoyable.
,: Jon Carlson, 08-01, T18M, Model 40A Boeing, 07:02, bgas012, Beautiful day, increasing turbulance as day wore on. Had trouble finding Dallas airfield (forgot to set ADF and wind took me off course - added another 18 minutes to flight. I don't think the letters mind the detour)

Bill that B.C. is sure some rugged country. I kept to a river all the way
up past Revelstoke. They were all connected but changed names along the
way. There was highways along side the river for the last third of the
trip. I have to tell about the neatest airport at a place called Blue
River. I left Revelstoke going north following Revelstoke lake. I
got just
passed Mica Dam and the lake or river started to die out in the canyon. I
passed Hallam MT that is 10,561 foot when a river was coming down the back
of it. The river was coming from the West. I followed the river as
it went
up. It died at 7000 plus. Being close to the top of the ridge I
went up to
10 grand and saw a highway and river on the other side it was so steep.
Started to dropped down into the canyon and it was deep. I saw the
airport
at about 9 grand. I started to spiral down (Spiraled so many times I left
a
mark on my screen <BG>) and found this Blue River is the hardest strip
that
I have landed in yet. This place is for landing on sunny days only. The
highway turned out to be the Yellowhead South Highway. The river there was
the Thompson River and it took me to the Fraser River up to Prince George.
>From there just followed the Crooked to Pine River and there was Dawson.
I
bet Odell would enjoy that part of the country. Course, Odell would be
like
Bear Claw in movie "Jeremiah Johnson" and say, "Hell Pilgrim, I
have already
been there."
It don't get any better than this.

Bill, been using the highways on the Canada flights and most of the time
they have worked out. Not on this flight. I had to turn back a
couple of
times. When I left Golden heading east on the highway to Lake Louise, it
ended up in Banff. The Canadian Rockies are just beautiful. I love
flying
in the deep canyons with the canyon walls being straight up and down.

Bill, got a chance to get on line long enough to download the sr-10 and
Bobcat. That sr-10 is just what I've been looking for. Can't wait
to try
it up in the Canadian Rockies. It is perfect for that fly by the seat of
pants that I like. I gave it a test on the above flights and it will go
slow. Just right for flying deep in the steep canyons up North.

Bi-planes are sure different when it comes to the way they handle. Have
not
flown them much until now. I sure found out about wheel breaks.
