Hi,
The MAGVAR is most noticeable when going east or west but not as pronounced
in the earlier versions, I mean you can keep track without getting lost.
The most fun is flying in the mountains to those 1500 to 2500 foot runways
that you can't make a straight in approach. I am flying in the winter,
fighting snow ice and rain. Using wheels floats and ski's. We are
having a
ball!
As far as the hours -- I diddn't keep track by leg but rather by day or
plane. I can give you a total by plane up to today.
Beaver --8:15
Otter--19:02
Twin Otter--11:02
DC-3--16:12
Martin 404--17:12
Total--71:43
Next exploration is to pick out those sites that have good water facilities
using the time period as spring or summer.. We just landed where we saw
water near a landing site without ice.
We only used the Martin on the large fields with the ILS's and the
DC-3
and Twin Otter on the other long flights. Myself I prefer the
Otter.
Also going to start out in Fairbanks with the Otter and follow the road
north as far as I can go. Landing at fields nearby to refuel.
It will be
a long flight as it twists and turns through the mountains with a lot af
back tracking.
God bless,
Bill Odell bgas004

Bill, I have started the Yukon River. Is it a flight
that I can report on?
If so, here is my first report. Just got started but I really enjoy just
following the river. I think Odell has a great idea of following a river.
I
have done that before but never this great.

Bill, I got started and just could not quit today, since it is raining and
56 degrees outside that helped. I sent Odell a email with a copy to you.
Thanks for sending me the Flight plans. I sure enjoyed them. Since
I am a
Texan, I am back to flying Texas again.
Take Care, Bill A
Does anybody read these things? Yea, I’m talking to you! If you want the reports to continue in this format send me an email
