Feature of the Month

Maritime Central Airways - ‘51 by Allan Lowson

Registration for the GAAR 2009 is open until 2400 UTC  25-January, 2009.

There are already 71 aircraft registered.  Some pilots are flying multiple aircraft.  I am flying a Beechcraft Twin Bonanza for Bluegrass, a DC-3 for DC-3 Airways and a Piper PA-24-250 Comanche for Greenbrier Virtual Aviation.

The flights will take place in February and March.  My thanks to Andrew Godden for doing all the hard work involved in being the Rally Co-Coordinator.

From the C.E.O.

As 2008 comes to an end, I am reminded of many individuals who have contributed to the success of Bluegrass Airlines.  Some of these friends are no longer with us, but their contributions live on and we still benefit from their efforts.  The list below is not all inclusive.  There are many others who I have not mentioned, mostly due to my lack of memory.

W. Joe Deering and Ray Yarnell, who founded Bluegrass Airlines in March of 1998.

Bob Thompson who headed up the Northern Division.

Art Nichols who was the first pilot to join. He was President and the Bangor Maine Hub Captain.  Art  passed away on 8/29/2001.

Bill Odell was a prolific writer and created many adventures for our pilots.  He was a big help to Bob Thompson in the Northern division, then when I came on board he transferred to the Caribbean hub in the Southern division to help me.  Later he transferred to the Alaska Division to help there.  He spent several years in preparation for “The Berlin Airlift”.  A major project of which he was a key team member was the Imperial Airways.  Bill passed away on June 8, 2005.

The Bluegrass Imperial Airways team:    Bill Odell, Norm Holman, Allan Lowson, Chris Fry and Coleman Green

Allan Lowson is Vice-President of Bluegrass Airlines.  He was a big help in processing flight reports, before we got the new auto-pirep system.  Allan is also a contributor of many of our Features of the Month.  In 2008 alone he provided features for 7 months.  A check of the hangar pages will reveal that Allan is also an aircraft painter.

Bill Hendrix helped out with Screenshots and came up with the idea to eliminate the work of the staff and let the pilots save their screenshot to an on-line host.

Coleman Green was the Bush Pilot Division Director, and has also been a provider of Scenery and Aircraft repaints.

Tom Goodrick has provided flight dynamics for many aircraft as well as digital panels.  He also was a great help for several GAAR’s  by providing the Ftime gauge, creating the scoring formulas and processing flight reports.

Andy Hatch set us up with the auto-pirep system saving Allan Lowson and myself considerable effort in the process.

Brent Brazeel provided a program to convert the pirep emails into spreadsheet ready data.  I still use that program today convert emails that the auto-pirep system sends me into data for the “View Pireps” page. Brent was also the Bush Pilot Division Director.

DC-3 Airways has been a great friend to us, and several of our pilots are also DC-3 Airways pilots.

Rob Finn supplied most of the schedules for the Australian Division.

Brian Wilson was a past Australian Division Director.

Andrew Godden is the Australian Division Director and adding content to the web-site.  He is also the GAAR 2009 coordinator.

Tom Smith was the SouthEast Hub Captain.

John Williams was a past Bush Pilot Division Director

A visit to our hangar pages, will reveal a host of aircraft designers and repainters to whom we owe our thanks.

Don’t forget to check out the forum and add your 3 cents.

That’s all for now,

Bill Von Sennet
