Bluegrass Airlines, September 2003
Stinson Tri-Motor at Bessemer, Alabama Check out the Screen Shot page for a lot more of the same!
Route Map from www.nationalairtour.org On September 8th, “The National
Air Tour” begins its re-creation of the 1932 National Air Tour, which was not
completed. Bluegrass Airlines will
attempt to re-create it in the virtual skies using Microsoft Flight Simulator
2002™ and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 “A Century of Flight” ™ Pilots are encouraged to fly in Multi-Player
mode, either with friends, on VatSim or using the BushNet Server. There are not any rules, but for your greatest
satisfaction and feeling of accomplishment, it is suggested that you fly an
aircraft of the 1930’s without using GPS, VOR’s or FSNavigator (except to
plan your flights).
The aircraft I am flying is the Davis Parasol
Monoplane. It is pictured above
flying past the Wright Brothers Memorial at Kill Devil Hills, NC. KFFA First Flight Airport is in the
background. The tour will arrive KFFA
at about 8:15 am on Sept, 20th and depart at about 8:00 am on Sept
21st. The tour aircraft
will be displayed on the circular road around the monument. KFFA scenery for FS2002 is on the
Bluegrass 2002 Hangar page. FS2004 has the monument in the default scenery.
The Davis D-1-W by Stephen D. Myers is in the www.avsim.com
file library. Filename is
davis.zip The only thing I added to
the panel is an NDB/ADF gauge. You
may need a COM radio and a XPNDR to fly with Vatsim. If this adventure interests you, sign
up. Send an email to: airtour@bluegrassairlines.com. All I need are: Name, Aircraft, email address, V.A. (if you
fly for a Virtual Airline), V.A. Pilots ID No one under 13 years of age may participate
without a parent or guardians approval.
Have them email me at bill@billvons.com
for special instructions on signing up. E-mail addresses will not be posted on the
web-site, they are only for my information if I need to contact you. Flight Reports: Click on the “File Pirep” link. Name, Pilots ID, Aircraft, Leg #,Time in
minutes, Comments Here is a sample: Bill Von Sennet, nat77, Davis D-1-W, 1, 68,
Kalamazoo was easy to find - just followed the interstate – 20 knot headwind. Pireps must be received by 4:00PM (EDT) on the day after that
leg was to have been flown. If you
are not going to be able to fly on the specified date, then you may fly
earlier and submit your reports early. Pireps will not be processed between Sept 17th
until Sept 21st. (I will be on a road trip to Kill Devil Hills, NC
! I expect every other day to process and post
the pireps and comments by 10pm EDT on the day after the flights. If a flight takes 1 hours and 15 minutes,
report the time as 75 Just use the
number, don’t add the word “minutes”.
All references to speed are in “Miles per
Hour” and to distance are in “Miles”
Very few aircraft in 1933 had air speed gauges registering in
“Knots” If you need to convert, multiply
miles by 0.8682 or multiply knots by 1.1518 All times on the route page are the estimated
time the first aircraft will take off.
It could take up to an hour for all of the aircraft to take off. |
