Luke, 12-26-06, UHMD-PABE, 167, BGAN021, C-5a, .Z20.PANC Diverted to PANC (Anchorage) after a long flight due to the shortness of Bethel. Attempting to land convinced the crew that a C-5a wouldn't land there. We had rescued some American and Aussies after problems in Eastern Russia due to insurgents. Our original flight plan saw us landing at the first Major airport in the USA after Insurgents just about caught our ship at Providencia.

Luke, 12-25-06, LOWS-LOWK, 48, BGAN021, JU-90, Trying out the junkers 90. Nice smooth slow climb from Sauzburg South across Austrian alps. Missed first approach so turned in valley to come in other end. The JU has diff brakes but tuyrns way better without them. Very touchy aircraft but smooth off the ground. Just a struggle to get up and easy to land. Has 4 x BMW132 engines. A bit small and under-powered for such a heavy Bird. They would have been a big production craft if not for the war. That's the shame, so many great planes would have been produced in mass had they not have been produced in German and occupied territories.

David R. Evans, 12-23-06, YSSY-YHID, 609, bgak015, Globe SWIFT, Got the air minestry,s ok to fly after reassembly so decided to fairy up to Horn Isl. for the start of GAAR 2007,departed at 0430 for a long 12 hour day, made stops at Gunnedah,Roma, and Townsville, for fuel and to walkabout, then decided to try one last long leg as there was a 10Knt tail wind above 6000ft,as the day heated up,turbulance kept us awake,as scattered thunderstorms popped up,was down to 10 gal.with 80Nm to go,so made a long decent@400Ft/m to 1700,arrived at YHID in rain ,but it felt good to open the canopy and step out after 10 hours

George Adair, 12-23-06, IKO-PADK , 88, bgan012, Corsair F4u, Leg 6 of trip for the GAAR2007. Almost forgot the last westerly stop before heading south. Time for a rest. Ive been in the seat for too long. I will cram the tanks full and watch the weather for a tail wind south to Midway island. Its 1450 miles south about 5 to 6 hours in the air.

George Adair, 12-23-06, CYPA  CYQH , 277, bgan012, Corsair F4u, Leg 2 of trip to Australia for the GAAR2007. Distance 863.4 miles. This was the first long hop to see how I would do with no autopilot. Had a decent reserve left to land with but taking off with full fuel and overweight from CYPA took alot of runway, will need the longest runways at PADK and Midway if I am going to get airborne.

George Adair, 12-23-06, PANC  IKO, 218, bgan012, Corsair F4u, Leg 5 of trip for the GAAR2007. Distance 795 miles. Anchorage wouldnt let me out until I changed my flight plan to IFR. Took off with near zero visibility, 30knt cross wind and 250ft ceiling. Climbed through the crud to 9600ft to get above it and headed for IKO following the coast and the islands.

George Adair, 12-23-06, CYXY  PANC , 75, bgan012, Corsair F4u, Leg 4 of trip to Australia for the GAAR2007. Distance 553 miles. Left Whitehorse early morning and got to see Northern Lights as I climbed for the trip through the mountains. Had to do a lot of valley running to stay below 10k feet because The Corsair is not equipped for oxygen. Some bumpy rides but otherwise a gorgeous day for a flight. Dropped into Anchorage without a hitch.

George Adair, 12-23-06, CYQH  CYXY , 75, bgan012, Corsair F4u, Leg 3 of trip to Australia for the GAAR2007. Distance 191 miles. Iced up and had to come down early, kept losing airspeed even with pitot heat, heavy snow and a strong head wind. Overnighter in Whitehorse. Such a short hop left me quite heavy on landing, bounced like a beach ball on touchdown.

George Adair, 12-23-06, CYWG  CYPA , 125, bgan012, Corsair F4u, Start of trip to Australia for the GAAR2007. Distance 375.5 miles had to set down early for weather front ahead of my flight plan.

Dan George, 12-23-06, KMQY/KBAZ, 360, BAGN 040, Cessna 206, Long flight uphill (upwind) from Smyrna TN to New Braunfels TX for the winter.  Low visibility and head winds resulted in a long, slow trip--nearly an hour overdue.  Actual routing KMQY/KSHV (refuel)/KBAZ

Luke, 12-22-06, VVDB-VLLN, 27, BGAN021, C-133 Bluegrass, .SAGAG. Flight into Laos from Vietnam. Hard landing at VVLN in what looks like a volcano. An Air America christmas flight as a follow on from the last flight. Do the CIA agents in Laos get prezzies from home?!?

Luke, 12-22-06, VVDN-VVPC, 32, BGAN021, C-123 Bluegrass, VVPC, VVDN, The year is 1967 and the ICAO codes do not do the flight justice being addon scenery. Chu lai airbase Vietnam from Danang, doing a touch and go with tail-ramp down to dump & run pallets of christmas mail under heavy ground fire from NVA insurgents, then turn east for Trabong runway number 9. The troups will appreciate the mail there after days of constant fire, 7.62mm rounds ricochet off my cabin window and mortar covers my approach as I once again drop my ramp, cargo-master sliding the pallets out as I skim the runway. South to safe destination.

DON MOORE, 12-17-06, YMML-YMAV, 32, BGAD042, MOONEY BRAVO, This flight was a memorial commemoration for departed BGA pilot GEOFF BOARDMAN  BGAD047.   Seven aircraft took part and after landing and marshalling to parking an eulogy was conducted by Ron McNeil {who also acted as the Westcoast ATC for the flight}.   The ceremony ended with a minute's silence.   In my mind it was a moving tribute to a fellow aviator.   Well done to all who attended and to those who were only able to attend in spirit.

Luke, 12-06-06, UHMD-PASA, 48, BGAN021, Howard 500, .PAGM. Test flight in the ac-680 across the Bering strait from russia to gambell. Real world weather. touch and go at PAGM saw my ac680 drifting away from the runway the more I tried to reaach it in gail force wind until I did a vtol style landing which was even better than an chopper landing. Low visibility to Destination had me using visual on the sea for an altitude guide as AP went out the window. Destination, 5 miles out the weather cleared and landed nicely despite the wind picking my left wheel off the ground at 4 KIAS.

Dan George, 12-05-06, KILN to KALB, 170, BAGN 040, MSA Beech D18S, This flight was flown using the weather from the snow/wind storm that hit the central and eastern states on 12/01-02/06.  Tailwinds in excess of 60kts were encountered during the flight as well as heavy turbulence and a barometric pressure of 29.25 in Hg.  The landing at Albany NY was in front of the approaching storm system and wind was not an issue, however heavy rain and 2 mile visibility added spice to an otherwise smooth landing.  Active Sky v 6.5 generated accurate weather for the entire flight.

The D700 is very similar to the douglas but due to the curved wings, about 45 kias faster. Heavy take off but climbed ok. Slow climb rate but fast on the level. easy landing and the mail arrived under time knocking 20 minutes off the douglas's eta of 50 minutes.
