Adrian Hoogenbosch, 06-28-04, EGLL  LSZB, 72, BGAD027, MD-11, From Heathrow to Belp (BERN Switserland). Aircraft: McDonald Douglas MD-11 in Swiss Air livery. Nice fast aircraft with 'interesting' panel.

Adrian Hoogenbosch, 06-29-04, YBAS YPAD, 154, BGAD027, Super Connie, This flight 'online' from "The Alice" to Adelaide. 712 miles. Had flightplan for the active rwy 23 --- yet AD_V_CTR felt the need to vector me to runway 5. there was no couse for that. I was VFR and it was CAVokay. Well being in charge of the aircraft I proceeded with the approach to rwy 23, I said thx and declined assistance. To me ATC is much appreciated in bad weather or at night but in VFR condx and with no other traffic around they should not add workload onto a pilot during approaches. (i mean 'single pilot-- a neat landing needs proper control inputs to keep all the way on the glidepath, that's when I prefer to be left alone)

Adrian Hoogenbosch, 06-29-04, YPDN-YBAS, 150, BGAD027, Super Connie, Back in the land of OZ. Darwin to Alice Springs, distance 716 miles. Two more legs of the RWT to go. The 'Flying horse' can smell the stable.

John Lawler, 06-20-04, CYLY-CYPK, 73, bgad017, Aviat Husky, Not flown the Husky before, and was very favourably impressed by it. Lovely route with lots of opportunities to look UP at the people on the cliff roads trying to thumb lifts off me. Nice bridges, too, though they looked a little too low to attempt with the Husky (reckon I could have got the Pony through one or two of them). Nice finish to a memorable Toughman.

John Lawler, 06-20-04, CAH4-CYGE, 95, bgad017, JSC -Rida Pony, Not the most conventional of amphibs, the Pony looks like a deskfan-powered lobster which has somehow acquired wings. It's slow, and quite manouverable, but the climb rate is not really up to this sort of thing - the route out of CAH4 to the river lost a lot of branches. Nevertheless, I'd recommend it to anyone who faancied something really different). I had just rolled almost to a stop on the runway at CGGE, and was looking for a taxiway, when a fierce Bonanza appeared out of the murk in front of me and executed a touch and go (though the tower called it a go-around). He was close enough that I could see his sunglasses (but not his white stick and guide dog).

John Lawler, 06-20-04, CYXC-CYGE, 69, bgad017, Lake Renegade, Another amphibian I could get to like! First time I've used the GPS - very handy bit of kit.

John Lawler, 20-06-04, TNCB-TNCA, 92, bgad017, Sikorsky S-39, Final legs of Caribbean Jaunt, via TNCC, as we couldn't find TNCS. Leg times 40, 52. Lovely sunny weather to finish a great event in.

John Lawler, 06-19-04, TTPM-TNCB, 361, bgad017, Sikorsky S-39, via SVMG, SVLO. On the run along the North Coast of Venezuela the weather steadily worsened, and the crossing to the Isle de Margarita was decidedly unpleasant (the sun-roof leaks). Worse was threatened, and I'd already harboured doubts about the S-39's range for the jump to Bonaire in strong westerlies. However, muttering the Australian Division's motto "Press on regardless, sport", we took off and tried to get above the weather. Eventually the fuel calculations looked dubious enough for me to return to La Orchida. There, fortified by tiffin and fuel (the S-39's "SHELL" logo comes in handy), we eventually continued in improved conditions, arriving at Bonaire in time to dress for dinner. Leg times 120/157/84.
