Olympic Airways was born in 1957 when Aristotle Onassis, the Greek
ship-owner, bought the assets of the national airline,
TAE.
The original aircraft was
an old DC-4,
with
DC-6Bs leased from UAT for long range international routes and the
balance of the domestic services provided by DC-3 aircraft.
