(image copyright Bjorn Larsson, www.timetableimages.com)

Trans-Canada Air Lines was the predecessor of Air Canada and was formed in 1936, making its first transcontinental flight in 1938.  The times for these flights across Canada are taken from the 1948 timetable available at the excellent web site www.timetableimages.com  The above map comes from a 1954 timetable.

At this time the aircraft fleet consisted of DC-3s for local flights and the service East of Montreal with trans-continental and international services provided by Canadair North Stars. The North Star was a development of the DC-4 with Rolls-Royce Merlin engines.
