Iraqi Airways was founded in 1945 as a department of the Iraqi State
Railways and started operating on 28 January 1946 using five de
Havilland DH.89a 'Dragon Rapides' on a service to Syria. With the
help of the British Overseas Airways Corporation, the new airline
ordered three Vickers 'Viking' aircraft. While waiting for the
'Vikings' to be delivered, the airline leased four Douglas DC-3 aircraft
from BOAC in December 1946. In 1947 Iraqi Airways ordered the de
Havilland DH.104 'Dove' to replace the 'Dragon Rapides' and the 'Doves'
were delivered in October 1947. The three new 'Vikings' were
delivered at the end of 1947 and the DC-3s were returned to BOAC, a
fourth 'Viking' was bought second-hand.
The times for these
domestic flights are taken from the April 1954 timetable available at
the excellent
www.timetableimages.com
All these routes were operated by
either de Havilland 'Doves' or Vickers 'Vikings' but you can always use
the early DC-3s leased from BOAC.

Flight Simulator Files
There are Iraqi Airways
paint schemes for Rick Piper's Vickers 'Viking' (iq_vkngs_11.zip) and
are available from flightsim.com. These work in FS9 and FSX with
DX2, but have the usual prop / cloud issues. The Rick Piper Vickers
'Viking' is available from cbfsim at
http://www.cbfsim.co.uk/cbfs_lib/thumbnails.php?album=30 A
Vickers 'Viking' by Jens Kristensen is also available for both FS9 and
FSX (Viking_10.zip and Viking_10x.zip) from flightsim.com. The de
Havilland DH.104 'Dove' (dh104v2.zip) is available for FS9 and FSX at
flightsim.com. Although there is not an Iraqi Airways scheme, the
green Channel Airways scheme is similar.
