Airways ’33-‘34

Union Airways
Union Airways was founded in 1929 and was
the first South African commercial airline. It operated as an independent airline
for five years before being absorbed by South African Airways.

The Union Airways route from Johannesburg
to Cape Town were flown using JU52/3ms. The South West Airways route from Kimberley
to Windhoek was flown using Junkers F.13s, and the Imperial Airways route from
Salisbury in Rhodesia to Cape Town was flown using Armstrong-Whitworth AW15 Atalantas.
