Cyprus Airways
Cyprus Airways were founded in 1947 with
support from BEA and the local government of Cyprus. Initially it had 3 DC-3
aircraft and effectively operated as a subsidiary of BEA, with links North from
Rome being BEA flights. This allowed BEA to serve destinations beyond Cyprus
which had been set as the limit for BEA as BOAC was set up as the long distance UK airline.

These routes all radiated out from
Nicosia airport which is now abandoned in the neutral zone between the Turkish
occupied north of the island and the Greek south. We will use the nearby Lakatamia airport in the Greek part of the island as the
hub for these flights.
The DC-3 aircraft wore a variation of
the early BEA Keyline livery at this time.
