This month we will follow the flight being made in commemoration of the centenary of the first United States Government Airmail Flight in May, 1918.

Three vintage Stearman Speedmail biplanes will retrace the pioneering west coast airmail route, Contract Air Mail 8 (CAM 8), from San Diego to Seattle, May 13-18, 2018. After departing Gillespie Field in San Diego, stops will include Los Angeles, Bakersfield, Fresno, San Francisco and Redding in California; Medford and Eugene in Oregon; Vancouver, Olympia and finally Paine Field in Everett, just north of Seattle, Washington. The flight is expected to take about 12 flying hours spread throughout the six-day event.

Details of the flight, aircraft and pilots can be found at https://www.cam8in2018.com/

Flightsim Aircraft

The Stearman Speedmail is available as payware for FS9 or FSX from Golden Age Simulations and can be found on most flightsim software outlets but not directly from the developer.

For freeware alternatives there are various Stearman and Waco biplanes on flightsim.com. A good alternative would be the NWA Waco collections in fs2004_nwa_waco_fleet.zip and fsx_nwa_waco_fleet.zip from flightsim.com.
