Century Pacific Lines
Century Pacific Lines were formed in July ’31 by Errett Lobban Cord, the owner of the Auburn Motor Company. The initial service was based in San Francisco and served routes to Southern California using three engine Stinsons. The fares were set lower than competing railway rates.
The routes were extended to Phoenix and were major competition to American Airlines at the time by offering cut-price air transport on competing routes.
However, they were unable to win a mail contract along these and the routes operated by the associated Century Air Lines. Cord offered the airlines to AVCO, the owners of American, in April ’32 in exchange for a directorship and stock in AVCO. Within a year Cord was in control of AVCO.
The flights below came from the November ’31 timetable from www.timetableimages.com .
