The ADF power supply had burnt out and spares were only at Vladivostok or Moscow so we will continue VFR and follow the Circumbaikal Railway line. Departed Rwy 26 and saw the rail bridge to the left of the road bridge. Turned left at the rail bridge and followed the line through the town, then all the way to Alan Ude south of Lake Baikal. Next to the rail line are the road and the electricity pylons and they all criss-cross one another. Flew fairly low up the Selenga River and after passing the rail bridge, continued to the next two span bridge road bridge and found Mukhino runway on the right bank of the river.

Flight actually started by shifting aircraft to Melbourne airport so as I could finish there also on a flight plan. A VFR flight at 4,500'. Around the Victorian goldfields towns. Return to Melbourne via Bolinda NBD for an ILS let down on runway 16. Nice quiet flight. Valuation of aircraft - it behaves well.

Make a wide turn around the airport to line up runway 29 into the wind. Slip through a break in the clouds and land. Getting used to this big bird.

Try to land on short runway into the wind. After two failed attempts opt for the long runway and a crosswind. Easier than expected. Taxi to hangar and unload cargo.

Just kept the plane's heading 8-10 degrees over from the desired heading. No problem. All the runways used today were east/west. With a stall speed near 35kts the Moth barely used a fraction of the runway! Taxiing? That was another story!

It may not have brakes but she sure is more stable than the Waco. Short flight to Boyle (light is fading fast) to stay with friends. Beautiful evening sky. Excellent landing using only a portion of the runway. Practice for TMC?? Can only stay for a day or two as I have to get down under where a Cessna is waiting for me to try the Tasmanian Tour. Pity, as we don't get too many nice days this late in the year.

Not only did I get to fly a classic L-10A (which atc kept calling an "L-1011". They must have been surprised!)but it should put me over the 100 hour mark with Bluegrass and earn my captain's wings. Wind 072@ 10, Vis 50mi. Strong crosswinds on landing at RW 2 put me a little far to the left of the runway, but a safe landing was made at 8:06 A.M.
