Great Australian Air Rally 2013
(GAAR 2013)

Bluegrass Airlines is proud to present the Great Australian Air Rally for 2013 (GAAR 2013) as part of the Great Air Rally Grand Prix (GAR GP) series.

Objective
As with all events in the GAR GP series, and in keeping with the general Bluegrass Airlines philosophy, the GAAR is about having fun.  The GAAR 2013 will provide an event for flight simulation pilots of all skill levels, from the novice to the more experienced pilots, and from all corners of the globe, to test their flight and navigation skills.

Event Format Overview
The event will officially be conducted over the period 01 - 28 Feb 13 and will involve a total of 10 flights.

The flights can involve either and / or a combination of VOR, NDB and "dead reckoning" navigating under both day and night Visual Flight Rule (VFR) and / or Instrument Flight Rule (IFR) conditions with variable departure times and weather conditions.

The dates and reporting times are detailed under the "Flight Schedule" link.

Eligible Aircraft Overview
Eligible aircraft include any radial or other piston engined aircraft that flew in the period 1930's to 1950's.  Turboprop, turbojet, turbofan and other such engined aircraft are not eligible for entry in the event.

The actual choice of aircraft is entirely at the discretion of the individual participant, provided it falls within the guidelines.   Other considerations will include the Flight Leg distance, runway length and surface, and altitude performance.  More information regarding aircraft eligibility is contained under the "Rules" link.

Rules Overview
Unfortunately, there is a need to have Rules to successfully conduct events such as the GAAR 2013.  The Rules, including detailed explanation of eligible aircraft, flight dates, reporting times, and other requirements are contained under the "Rules" link.

Registration

Moorabbin (YMMB)
Effective immediately and until 28 Feb 13, inclusive, between 1700 hrs and 2100 hrs AEDT.

Pilots are to note that aircraft approaching Moorabbin (YMMB) from the west to enter the circuit for RWY 35R are to do so at least 3 nm north of the aerodrome. This is due to nightly aerial pyrotechnics displays down to 1,200' AGL to the west of RWY 35R.

5 nm increase in the length of Flight Leg 8 for an overall event length of 1505 nm.

Note.  All event download files and Target Times for participants will be available by 20 Jan 13 at the latest.

Note.  Please see Paragraph 6 on the 'Rules' page regarding "target times".  To provide an additional challenge again, the "target times" for some Flight Legs will be "blind".
